The Danville Historical Society is the caretaker of the region’s largest repository of artifacts, photographs, documents, and stories and strives to illuminate the present through knowledge of the past.
Through the decades, DHS has collected and preserved the heart of Danville’s history: hundreds of thousands of photographs and negatives, fine art, school memorabilia, family histories, personal journals, organizational minutes, business papers, and ephemera. Its holdings include the Dan River, Inc. collection (1880-2006), the Civil Rights collection, the Stratford College collection, as well as the collections of the former National Museum of Tobacco and Textile and the Schoolfield Museum and Cultural Center.
